On Sunday, August 25, Bangladesh openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam chased down a target of 30 runs with ease, to secure their first Test win over Pakistan. With that, Bangladesh also became the first team to defeat Pakistan in a Test match in their own den by 10 wickets, to send the social media platform X ablaze.
Following a late start to the Test match on day one, Pakistan were reeling at one stage with the score of 16/3 after being put into bat first by Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. But then, Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel scored hundreds, to play a key role in taking Pakistan to 448/6 (declared) in their first innings.
Bangladesh replied with a great batting performance, spearheaded by Mushfiqur Rahim’s 191, apart from half-centuries from three other batters, to reach 565-run total in their first innings. With a lead of 117 runs, Bangladesh not only put the Pakistan batting lineup under pressure in their second innings, but kept chipping away at the wickets before bundling them out for 146 runs on day five.
The formalities of the run chase were completed by the Bangladesh openers in just 6.3 overs.
