The Indian quartet, consisting of Jay Kumar, Neeru Pathak, Rihan Chaudhary, and Sandramol Sabu, finished fifth at World Athletics U20 Championships, failing to secure a podium finish. The 4x400m mixed relay team, who had earlier secured a finals qualification at the World U20 Championships, underway in Lima, Peru after finishing third overall.
The Indian team qualified for the event after registering season’s best time of 3:22.54s in the heats, only behind Australia. Although, they failed to continue their momentum in the final as secured fifth place finish, clocking 3:22.92s.
The Australia team, consisting of Jordan Gilbert, Bella Pasquali, Jack Deguara and Sophia Gregorevic secured first-place finish. They crossed the finishing line in 3:19.27s. They were followed by Poland and China in secured second and third place respectively.
Amanat Kambhoj qualifies for final for women’s discus throw
In the other event, Amanat Kamboj of India secured a place in the finals of the women’s discus throw. She covered a distance of 49.98 meters and will for a podium finish on Wednesday, August 28. Meanwhile, Ekta Dey, who participated in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event, finished 12th.
Talking about the tournament, it has been scheduled to be played between August 27 to August 31 in Peru. Initially, due to political issues, the South American nation refused to host the tournament. However, after resolving the issues, the tournament is going on as per the schedule. A total of 43 players (men and women combined) are representing India.
