Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Shooting: Avani Lekhara, Mona Agarwal qualify for women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 final

Reigning Paralympic Games champion, Avani Lekhara and her Indian compatriot, Mona Agarwal on Friday, August 30 booked their spots in the final of the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Avani, put up a brilliant show to finish second in the category while Mona finished at seventh place. 

The Indian para-shooter, who claimed a gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, secured second place in the qualification round with a score of 625.8 points, just 0.2 points short of the Paralympic record. Meanwhile, Mona Agarwal secured qualification with 623.1 points after series of six sets to secure a place in the final.

Ukraine’s Iryna Shchetnik ended the qualification round with a first place finish, scoring 627.5 points, which was also a Paralympic record. Speaking afte r her win, Avani Lekhara told PTI, “I think we have been in a very positive environment throughout. We are just focusing on the process rather than the outcome. There, obviously, will be expectations but those expectations only motivate me and inspire me more to give my best.”

It is to be noted that only top eight qualify for the final round. In the women’s 10m air rifle, top eight, including Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal qualified out of the 17 participants. The final round of women’s 10m air rifle SH1 standing is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 30 at 3:15 pm (IST).
