Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Thursday, August 29, announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. In a surprising turn of events, Deandra Dottin, who announced retirement from international cricket, citing “non-conducive” environment with the West Indies setup, returns to the side after she took a U-turn from retirement, earlier this month.
Notably, Dottin holds the record for fastest century in women’s T20 internationals. Head Coach, Shane Deitz welcomed Dottin into the setup, hailing her record. “Her record is phenomenal and she is doing it again at the WCPL as we speak. We’ve been really working hard off the field with our team culture and the leadership group withing the team. Deandra and the other players who are coming into the side – they are all going to be welcomed in the same manner,” Deitz said.
Speaking further of the squad, the side sees four changes from their last T20I series. While Hayley Matthews will continue to lead the side, the squad welcomed Ashmini Munisar, Mandy Mangru, uncapped player Nerissa Crafton, along with Deandra Dottin. Whereas Cherry Ann-Fraser, Rashada Williams, Shabika Gajnabi and Kate Wilmott are the four players who did not find a place in the 15-member side for the marquee event.
Notably, the 2016 champions, West Indies are placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, South Africa, England and Scotland. They will kickoff their campaign against South Africa on October 4 in Dubai.
