On Tuesday, October 1, the Indian cricket team defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second Test of the two-match Test series at the Green Park in Kanpur. The final day’s play saw Indian bowlers bundle out Bangladesh in the second innings for 146 runs before chasing down the paltry target of 95 runs with the help of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s quick-fire fifty.
The second Test match was severely impacted by rain and wet outfield on its first three days, which led to the Indian cricket team forcing the issue with the bat on day four, scoring 285/9 in just 34.4 after bundling out Bangladesh for 233 runs. The Indian batters were quite aggressive against all kinds of bowlers thrown towards them by Bangladesh, notching up the fastest team 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 in a Test innings across formats.

Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj – 6
Rishabh Pant tried to be very aggressive in the Indian first innings, but he lost his wicket on a single digit score, while his boundary in the second innings notched up the comfortable win for the hosts in the second Test after he had yet another impressive match behind the stumps. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj weren’t given as many overs as their senior compatriots, but still, they managed to pick up a couple of key wickets in both the Bangladesh innings.
Rohit Sharma – 6.5
Rohit Sharma got off to an absolute flyer in the first innings against Bangladesh, hitting the first ball for six, but he could only last 11 balls for his 23 runs in the second Test. The impetus provided by the Indian captain led to the rest of the batters following suit, taking Bangladesh bowlers to the cleaners, following which he also took an exceptional catch in the visitor’s first innings, surprising himself and his teammates.
Shubman Gill – 7
Shubman Gill managed to carry the early momentum provided by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, scoring 39 off 36 in the Indian first innings in the second Test at the Green Park in Kanpur. He also got the chance to bat in the second innings for India, but his early dismissal didn’t deter the rest of his teammates in chasing down the 95-run target, to clean sweep Bangladesh 2-0 in the Test series.
Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli – 7.5
Ravindra Jadeja didn’t contribute much with the bat in the first innings for India in the second Test, but he managed to take four key wickets across both the innings of Bangladesh, going past the magic mark of 300 wickets in the longest format of the game. Virat Kohli, who was dismissed quite cheaply in the first Test, delivered a far better performance in the second Test, scoring a quick-fire 40 in the first innings before ensuring that India chased the winning target without any hiccup in the second innings.
KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin – 8
KL Rahul desperately needed some runs in the second Test match against Bangladesh, and he came with a swashbuckling 68 off 43 with seven fours and two maximums, to help India take a valuable 52-run lead in the first innings. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was given the player of the series award against Bangladesh, didn’t quite replicate his heroics from Chennai, but still, he contributed to the cause with his five wickets across both the innings of the visitors.
Jasprit Bumrah – 8.5
Jasprit Bumrah was quite exceptional with the ball for India in the second Test match of the series against Bangladesh, taking three wickets each in both the innings, to put himself in contention for the player of the match award. He bowled some unplayable deliveries to the Bangladesh batters, most prominently to Mushfiqur Rahim, castling him on both occasions for low scores.
Yashasvi Jaiswal – 9
Yashasvi Jaiswal displayed some breathtaking strokeplay in both the innings against Bangladesh at the Green Park in Kanpur in the second Test match. He scored twin fifties at better than a run-a-ball, first to set-up the Indian response to Bangladesh’s first innings score, and then, he batted for majority of India’s pursuit of 95-run target against Bangladesh, to win the player of the match award.
