Absolute pleasure meeting this little guy: Mujeeb Ur Rahman praises Delhi crowd’s support during win vs ENG

Afghanistan cricketer Mujeeb Ur Rahman revealed that the boy who sobbed while hugging him after their historic victory against England was not an Afghan. After Afghanistan recorded an iconic victory against the reigning champions on October 15, Sunday, a video of a young boy crying while Rahman consoling him went viral on social media. The spinner took to Twitter to reveal that the fan was not from Afghanistan but India.

On October 15, England, under the leadership of Jos Buttler, and Afghanistan, under Hashmatullah Shahidi, locked horns at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the Indian capital city, Delhi. The packed stadium with more Afghan fans than English fans celebrated history unfolding in front of them as Shahidi and his side took down their counterparts in what is now being termed as the ‘biggest upset in World Cup.’

Soon, a video from the stadium went viral where the spinner could be seen hugging and consoling a kid. The young fan was assumed to be an Afghan, but the cricketer soon revealed the truth and said that he was an Indian boy. Rahman revealed, “It’s not Afghani boy, it’s one young Indian boy so happy for ur (our) win. It was absolute pleasure meeting this little guy from India Delhi last night (Cricket is not just a game it’s an emotion.)”

The 22-year-old went on to thank fans and added, “Big thank you to all our amazing fans for coming down and supporting us last night the love and support is overwhelming. We are grateful for your continuous support and we can’t wait for you to keep supporting us in the future❤🙌 thanks for love Delhi”

Afghanistan emerged victorious by a margin of 69 runs, and in their next match, they will lock horns with New Zealand on Wednesday, October 18.
