Angad Bedi dedicates gold medal to his late father Bishan Singh Bedi

Angad Bedi, the Bollywood actor and sprinter, won a gold medal in the 400m race on his international sprinting debut, completing the distance in 67 seconds, at the prestigious Open International Masters 2023 Athletics Championship in Dubai. The remarkable victory for Angad Bedi happened days after his father, the former Indian cricket team captain, Bishan Singh Bedi passed away, which prompted him to dedicate his gold medal to the great man.

Under the training and guidance of the coach, Brinston Miranda, who is a well known personality in the world of hurdles racing, Angad Bedi made his foray into sprinting in his late 30s and early 40s. Before clinching the gold medal in Dubai, he had secured his first silver medal in a racing tournament held in Mumbai earlier in the year, as per the report from the Times of India.

In an emotional post on the official Instagram account, Angad Bedi remembered his father Bishan Singh Bedi, while talking about how the win in Dubai at the 400m race came about. The excerpts of the caption read, “Didnt have the heart.. didnt have the courage.. Body wasnt willing.. Nor was the mind. But an external force from up above made me pull through.. not my best time.. Not my best form but some how we did it.. This gold will always be my most special. Thank you Dad for being with me… I miss you. Your son”.

Moreover, in an interview, Angad Bedi also reflected on the remarkable victory and said, “This win is dedicated to my father, he always said that keep your head down and let your actions speak. I have always been deeply inspired by his wisdom. I did this race because that’s what my father would have wanted. It’s my way of honouring him and his legacy. ”

“Sportsmanship is in my blood. And I want to do exactly what my father would have expected of me. I did this race in honour of him and the values he instilled in me during his remarkable life. He will always be there with me as my guiding light. I am also deeply grateful for the guidance and mentorship of Coach Miranda, whose expertise has been instrumental in my progress,” he added.
