Barcelona’s Jules Kounde to miss El Clasico against Real Madrid with knee injury

Jules Kounde, the French footballer, is set to miss at least one month of football with a knee injury, which happened during a La Liga match for Barcelona against Granada on October 8, Sunday. Following the 2-2 draw at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Carmenes, the tests on Monday morning revealed that the 24-year-old sprained the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

During the away trip, Jules Kounde was substituted by Ronald Araujo in the 44th minute of the match, five minutes after Gavi fell into him inside the Barcelona box. The centre-back tried to jog off the pitch in his bid to continue playing against Granada, but shortly afterwards, he went to the floor, before getting forced off the pitch.

Barcelona sent out an update on Jules Kounde’s condition on their official website, following his untimely substitution, on October 9, Monday. The statement read, “Tests this Monday morning have revealed that Jules Kounde has sprained the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, and the French defender will be unable to play until the injury heals. This also means he will miss out on playing for his country during the international break.”

The knee injury is going to ensure that Jules Kounde won’t be available for France in their next two fixtures, including a qualifier for the Euro 2024 against Netherlands on October 13, and then, a friendly versus Scotland on October 17. Furthermore, he will not be taking part in the upcoming El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid on October 28.
