Chirag Shetty – Satwiksairaj Rankireddy create history; become first Indian men’s doubles pair to achieve World No. 1

The Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty once again etched history as they became the first Indian men’s doubles pair to achieve the World No. 1 ranking. The Indian pair climbed up a spot to achieve their best-ever career ranking of World No. 1 in the latest BWF World Rankings on Tuesday.  

Notably, they might be the first men’s doubles pair, they are fourth after Prakash Padukone, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth to take the top spot in the BWF World Rankings.

The Indian pair of Satwik-Chirag on October 7, Saturday created history by winning the first-ever gold for the country in badminton at the Asian Games 2023. The duo got better of Choi Solgyu and Kim Wonho of South Korea, 21-18, 21-16 in the men’s doubles final to clinch the gold at Asiad.

It is to be noted that prior to Satwik-Chirag’s gold in badminton at the Asian Games, the country had only two silvers. Apart from that the Indian men’s badminton team, which also comprised of the Indian duo along with the likes of HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and others clinched their first-ever silver at the recently concluded Asian Game 2023.
