Horrible idea: Glenn Maxwell on light shows in Cricket World Cup 2023

The five-time champions, Australia are back on track at the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The side lost their opening two games on the trot, but made sure to bring it back on track, registering three wins in a row. While their latest came against the Dutch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 25.

During Australia’s 309-run win over Netherlands, the side also recorded the highest-ever win by runs in CWC history. While David Warner did his part with a knock of 104 off 93 balls, middle order batter, Glenn Maxwell stole the show, recording the fastest century in World Cup, surpassing Aiden Markram. The Big Show took the limelight for his aggressive batting, but during the post-match celebration criticised the mid-match light show.

“I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to re-adjust and I think it’s the dumbest idea for cricketers”, he said. The Player of the Match winner also added, “so I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore”, calling it a “horrible idea”.

David Warner reacts post Maxwell’s “horrible idea” remarks

The Australian opener, David Warner has hit back at his teammate, Glenn Maxwell on his remarks on the light show during matches at the ongoing Cricket World Cup. The centurion from Australia’s match against the Netherlands, Warner, took to X to comment on the light shows adding that he loves it.

“I absolutely loved the light show, what an atmosphere. It’s all about the fans. Without you all we won’t be able to do what we love”, he wrote in a post.

Talking about Pat Cummins-led Australia, the side will next take on New Zealand on October 28 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala in the first match of the double header.
