IND vs AUS ODI World Cup 2023: “No 4 batsman has to absorb the pressure” – Yuvraj Singh hits out at Shreyas Iyer

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh lashed out at Shreyas Iyer after he failed to perform in India’s ICC ODI World Cup 2023 opener against Australia on October 8, Sunday. In what seemed to be an assured win, Indian batting order collapsed dramatically as they came out to chase the target of 200. The visiting skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first.

The Indian blowing department in the names of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj and more displayed exemplary skills to bundle out their counterparts at an easily approachable score of 199. Coming to chase the target, Rohit Sharma opened the innings with the rising star Ishan Kishan.

While Indians were riding high on confidence, it seemed as if the Pat Cummins and Co. were willing to let the match slip away. Aussie bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc displayed brilliant bowling skills to destruct the top Indian batting order dramatically. India lost Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer on duck. The 2011 World Cup winner and former stable number 4 batter Yuvraj Singh took to social media to lash out at the team.

Singh took to Twitter and wrote, “No 4 batsman has to absorb the pressure!! Need better thinking from (Shreyas Iyer) when team is trying to rebuild their innings! Still don’t understand why (KL Rahul) is not batting at no 4! After scoring a 100 against Pakistan!  Singh added, “Dropping (Virat Kohli) might cost australia big time, don’t drop the king cause he can take the game away 😉. Game on !!”

It was until Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s blistering innings that India found some stability. Kohli scored a half-century in 75 deliveries to get the team on a stable side and take the team’s score to 100 at the loss of three wickets.
