While Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav stepped in for India in absence of Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur, the Kiwis got same team for the match. The Kiwis looked absolutely destructive as they stepped into bat at the picturesque stadium of Dharamsala. However, their plans seemed to be falling apart just like their batting order after Mohammed Shami took charge.

Shami, who played his first match of the 2023 edition of the World Cup took a brilliant five-wicket haul, starting from the first ball of his spell. The Indian fast-bowler dismissed Kiwi batters, including the likes of Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry. However, the Blackcaps rode on Mitchell’s 127-baller 130 runs to post a total of 273 runs on the scoreboard.

In the second innings, Rohit Sharma along with Shubman Gill gave a decent start to the home favourites. However, several hopes were shattered when wickets fell in quick succession for the two-time champions. While the match almost slipped away from the Indian team, Indian batting icon, Virat Kohli took steering in his hand in crucial times and scored a crucial95 off 104 balls along with a quick cameo from Ravindra Jadeja to guide the side to the other side of finishing line.
