After the successful hosting of 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL organisers are gearing for the next edition. But with the elections set to take place in that time of the year in 2024, there have been rumours of the IPL either being played outside India or even resume after a break.

However, to put thing to rest, IPL Chairman, Arun Dhumal on Saturday, October 21 confirmed that the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held in the Indian subcontinent despite coinciding with the general elections. Dhumal while speaking to Jagran News, stated that the 17 th  edition will go ahead in the month of March-May, adding that the schedule will be announced after the dates of the elections.

“The IPL will be held in India next year. We will need time to make the schedule because it will be made after the Election Committee announces the dates of the general elections. We will have to see when the different state have their election and will make the schedule accordingly. We will need to wait and will need to work with the government”, he said as quoted by Wisden India.

Notably, this will not be the first time that the tournament will be coinciding with the general elections. The biggest T20 league in the world, IPL, has previously coincided thrice, in 2009, 2014 and 2019. However, in 2009, the entire tournament was played in South Africa. Additionally, in 2014, the first 20 game were played in UAE and the tournament later was completed in India.
