Jack Doohan to race for Alpine F1 Team during FP1 sessions in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi

Jack Doohan, the Australian motorsport driver, is set to race for the Alpine F1 Team during the Free Practice 1 (FP1) sessions in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi, to close out the 2023 season of F1 World Championship. The 20-year-old is currently in fourth place in the F2 World Championship for Invicta Virtuosi Racing, with just one race remaining in the ongoing year.

Last year, Jack Doohan had also participated in the two FP1 sessions for the Alpine F1 Team, as a rookie, in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi, where he is going to make his mark in the 2023 season too. Notably, his first FP1 outing in 2022, in Mexico City, was cut short due to “anomalies” on his power unit provided by Renault, but still, the Aussie youngster stated that he would cherish his debut weekend in F1 forever.

The 20-year-old has extensive experience of testing the A521 car during his Reserve Driver test programme this season at a few Formula 1 venues, as the member of the Alpine Academy. He has also fulfilled the duty of being the race team support on the Enstone simulator during the race weekends.

After Jack Doohan is announced to be a part of Alpine F1 Team for the FP1 sessions in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi, his comments on the new development read, “It is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car on a Grand Prix weekend for the second year in a row. I am very grateful to BWT Alpine F1 Team for the chance to drive the A523 in Free Practice in both Mexico and Abu Dhabi.”

“I have been working really hard with the team this year as their Reserve Driver, taking every opportunity to learn as much as possible for them and I feel prepared to step up and take over driving duties for the team. My sole focus is doing what is required of me by the team in order to contribute positively to the team’s outcome across the two Grand Prix weekends,” he added.
