The 41-year-old revealed that he told the right-handed opening batter to take part in their upcoming clash against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023, citing his example of playing twice while suffering from dengue.

Yuvraj Singh, one of the greatest all-rounders from India, has been known for fighting against adversity, both on and off the cricket field. After suffering from dengue, Shubman Gill had been recovering in Chennai for the past few days, before making his way to Ahmedabad for the India versus Pakistan match, scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, October 14. In the absence of the 23-year-old, Ishan Kishan had taken up the opening position for India, scoring a golden duck against Australia, before a run a ball 47 in front of Afghanistan bowlers.

When the News18 correspondent asked Yuvraj Singh about his recent chat with Shubman Gill, he was quoted as saying, “I did, I told him, ‘Main do baar dengue mein khela hun aur World Cup mein bhi meri tabiyat theek nahi thi. To khadaa ho jaa aur khel,’ because it’s a very important game’ (I have played twice with dengue and wasn’t well during the World Cup (in 2011). So, just get up and play).”

“Anyway he would have played…. if he is feeling better. But to bounce back from a viral or dengue is really hard. Because it sucks everything from your body. So, I am sure that he really wants to play that game (against Pakistan) as well. So, everybody is really looking forward for him to, you know, play that game,” he added.
