ODI World Cup 2023: Australia Playing XI vs India

The five-time world champion Australia will begin their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign by facing the host nation India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk in Chennai. Australia would love to perform to best of their potential to face such a strong Indian team at their own den. It is to be noted that in this year, Aussies have won three out of six ODI matches that they have played against India on Indian soil.

Here, in this article we will have a look at Australia’s expected playing XI for the match against India in ODI World Cup 2023.

Openers: David Warner and Mitchell Marsh

Australia will have one of their most experienced player David Warner opening the batting for his side. Mitchell Marsh has played six ODI matches as opener, out of which five of them are against India in 2023, hence this pair would expect to play as openers in their inaugural match of ODI World Cup.

Middle Order: Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey

Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne batting in the middle order would give the Australian side the much-needed  stability for them to perform in a critical situation, while Alex Carey is expected to play as first-choice wicketkeeper  for Australia in this ODI World Cup game.

All-Rounders: Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green

Glenn Maxwell as an aggressive batter will give the much-needed  impetus for the side. In the recently completed India vs Australia ODI game in Rajkot, Maxwell was seen picking four wickets with the ball as well. On the other hand, Cameron Green’s role will be very similar to what Hardik Pandya does for Team India in ODIs.

Bowlers: Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa

Pat Cummins being the leader of the Australian side will start in the XI alongside fearsome bowlers like Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Adam Zampa’s leg spinning option will be a key thing to look forward to in this contest as all top Indian batters like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have struggled to play him.
