ODI World Cup 2023: Selectors to take call on Shubman Gill’s World Cup spot; Jaiswal & Ruturaj frontrunners

The Indian team has had a winning start to their ODI World Cup 2023. The Rohit Sharma-led Team India won their opening game by six wickets against Australia and will now take Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. But before the side’s next game, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that opener Shubman Gill will miss this fixture too.

The 24-year-old, who continues to recover after testing positive for dengue on arrival in Chennai, however, is recovering under the supervision of the medical team. However, if reports are to be believed, Gill was admitted at the Kaveri hospital in Chennai after a dip in the platelet count, the cricket has been discharged and recovering at the hotel.

 

Seeing Gill’s conditions reports reveal that the BCCI selectors might take a call on hi s World Cup spot. As reported by The Indian Express, the selection committee is set to discuss with the team management if a replacement has to be kept ready. Furthering adding to this, it also addressed that in this case, Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad could end up joining the side as a cover.
