ODI World Cup 2023: Why did game between India and New Zealand saw a brief halt?

India are taking on New Zealand in Match 21 of the ODI Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The Men in Blue earlier in the match won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first.  The Tom Latham-led side posted 273 in their 50 overs, courtesy a brilliant 150-plus run partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra. While Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets, Shami finished with the figures of 5/54 in his first match of the CWC 2023.

However, when it came to India’s batting, Lockie Ferguson dismissed the two openers before Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer took the field. However, the innings was halted due to poor visibility as low clouds and mist engulfed the entire ground. The player also walked off the field as the umpires discussed on the best possible way.

However, the match resumed after 10 minutes halt. If the match would have seen further delay, the match would have been cut into a 20-over chase with India needing 24 runs in 4.2 overs at that moment.
