Indian batter Shubman Gill did not travel with the side to the stadium and missed the opener against Australia with an illness. The Indian opener tested positive for dengue since reaching Chennai and even missed the team’s net sessions. Gill was replaced by Ishan Kishan as the opener of Team India.

Speaking at the toss, Rohit Sharma said, “Unfortunately, he (Shubman Gill) didn’t recover in time, we waited till today morning and he couldn’t recover. Ishan comes in to replace him, he will open the batting.”
