Roelof van der Merwe takes diving catch to dismiss Mark Chapman, video goes viral

The left-arm orthodox spinner of Netherlands, Roelof van der Merwe took a fantastic diving catch to dismiss Mark Chapman of New Zealand in their ODI World Cup 2023 matchup at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. On October 9, Monday, Aryan Dutt got into the thick of things for the Dutch with the ball in hand, picking up his first wicket of the day in the third powerplay.

For the unversed, the captain Scott Edwards had won the toss for the Netherlands, deciding to field first in the afternoon heat. The bowlers started the proceedings well for the Dutch, bowling three consecutive maidens to start off the batting innings of New Zealand.

But then, the openers Devon Conway and Will Young stepped on the accelerator for the Blackcaps, bringing up the fifty-run stand in the eighth over itself. After their 67 opening stand was broken, Rachin Ravindra walked into the middle to build a 77-run partnership for the second wicket with Will Young.

Daryl Mitchell and the stand-in captain Tom Latham kept the momentum going for the New Zealand innings, taking them past 200 in the 36th over, with seven wickets in hand. Just after their partnership was ended, Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman came out to bat, one after another, to accelerate the scoring in the death overs, getting dismissed for low scores in the process.

At the end of their 50 overs, New Zealand finished their innings with a commanding score of 322/7 on the board. Mitchell Santner hit a flurry of boundaries in the last few overs to ensure that his team put the Netherlands completely on the backfoot before the second innings was scheduled to begin.
