Rohit Sharma responds “it’s not bat, it is my power” to umpire for questioning his six hitting ability

The captain of India, Rohit Sharma, played a scintillating innings against the arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday, October 14, to help his team register a famous seven-wicket win in the ODI World Cup 2023. During his power-packed batting display, when the 36-year-old had the umpire Marais Erasmus for his six-hitting ability, he responded, “It’s not the bat, it is the power” while pointing towards his bicep.

India had bundled out Pakistan for a paltry score of 191 after they were comfortably placed at 155-2 with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan at the crease. It was a complete team performance from the Men in Blue with the ball, with Jasprit Bumrah, the player of the match, Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav picking up two wickets each.

In pursuit of the 192 target, Rohit Sharma took charge of the situation, lighting up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with fours and sixes all over the place. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli also started their innings with a flurry of boundaries in the first powerplay stage for the Indian cricket team too.

Later, Rohit Sharma revealed the on-field banter with umpire Erasmus while talking to all-rounder Hardik Pandya in a post-match interaction.  After scoring 86 off 63 with six fours and six maximums, Rohit talked about the bicep celebration after hitting 90m six off Haris Rauf, he said, “Wo (the umpire Marais Erasmus) puch raha tha ki itna lamba chakka kaise maarte ho, ye tere bat mein kuch hai kya, main bola ‘bat nahi, power hai’ (He was asking me how do you hit these big sixes, this bat has something in it, I said, ‘it’s not the bat, it is my power’), while laughing hilariously.

Moreover, after three wins in their first three matches of the ODI World Cup 2023, India are currently on top of the points table, as per the NRR. Alongside the Men in Blue, only New Zealand and South Africa are yet to be defeated in the flagship tournament as of now.
