After the game,  Michael Vaughan, supporting his team, shared a tweet expecting England to reach the sem-finals of the World Cup. Vaughan had posted, “England in the World Cup semis” with a hands-up emoji that symbolizes good times and celebrations. Reacting to this tweet,  Sehwag reminded the Englishman how the Three Lions have only reached the World Cup semis just once in the previous attempts. Sehwag shared, “Not in 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2023. Just one in 8 attempts.”

Addressing his team’s performance, the Afghanistan captain Mujeeb Ur Rahman said, “I told the boys that 280-290 will be enough when I got back into the dressing room. I want to say that the belief, trust and talent is there. Last couple of games we didn’t finish well but the belief is there. This is just the first win, we are looking for more in the tournament. This was just the first one, not the last one.”
