WATCH: Delhi crowd erupts in ‘Rohit… Rohit’ chants as Hardik Pandya walks out for toss during DC vs MI

In match 43 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals hosted the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. While MI won the toss, Hardik Pandya invited DC to bat first. On the back of Jake Fraser-McGurk’s 27-ball 84 and a crucial knock from Shai Hope and Tristan Stubbs, DC posted 257/4 in their 20 overs.

However, in pursuit of the 258-run target, the Hardik Pandya-led side fell short by 10 runs and registered their sixth defeat in the ongoing season. While Tilak Varma played a 32-ball 63-run inning, Pandya also played a crucial knock of 46, but ended in the losing cause. But in the videos from the match going viral on social media, the 30-year-old MI skipper was once again a victim of boos.

As the MI skipper took the field at the toss, fans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium erupted in Rohit …. Rohit chants. On the other hand, a section of fans welcomed Hardik with boos.

It is to be noted that Hardik Pandya has received massive backlash after he replaced Rohit Sharma as the MI skipper ahead of IPL 2024. This gesture by MI hasn’t rested well among the Paltan fans, who have given hostile reception to the Indian all-rounder at a lot of places during the ongoing IPL 2024.

Speaking of the five-time champions, the Hardik Pandya-led MI are placed at ninth spot with only three wins from nine games so far in the IPL 2024. With six points in their kitty, MI’s playoffs spot is now in doubt. The Mumbai-based side are scheduled to play Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
