WATCH: Jofra Archer joins England squad as reserve player for ODI World Cup 2023

On Thursday, October 20, Jofra Archer, one of the premier fast bowlers in world cricket, joined the England squad as a reserve player in Mumbai, ahead of their must win clash against South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023. The 28-year-old was spotted putting in the work at the Wankhede Stadium, doing some sprints on his own, away from the main group of English players.

England have missed the services of Jofra Archer a lot in the past couple of years, in all formats of the game, due to recurring injury issues for the fast bowler. He was one of the crucial players for the ODI World Cup 2019 winning campaign at home for the English cricket team, picking up 20 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 24.55 and an economy of 4.77.

Notably, Jofra Archer was not included in the 15-member squad of England for the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, due to his recovery from the recurring stress fracture issue in his elbow. As a travelling reserve, the Barbados-born cricketer could find himself in the main squad, if any injury concern happens to an English player in the remainder of the flagship tournament.

In the ODI World Cup 2023, the defending champions England have won only one match out of three, against Bangladesh at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. They were beaten in the opener of the quadrennial spectacle by New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, before Afghanistan shocked them at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
