While the team’s stars opted to stay out from the session, number four batter Shreyas Iyer was in focus in the nets. Iyer, who has been in and out of the form throughout the season, was overseen by head coach Rahul Dravid. The young batter has not managed to live up to the expectations and pulled just 134 runs in 6 matches. The 28-year-old has become a constant target of his weakness, short balls.

In the practice session, Iyer spent nearly two hours in the session, working on his skills. The Mumbai born faced some local bowlers in the beginning before India’s throwdown specialists D Raghavendra, the left-handed Sri Lankan Nuwan Seneviratne and batting coach Vikram Rathour bowled him.

Speaking on Iyer’s batting, former India opener Gautam Gambhir said “See, practising in the nets doesn’t mean he becomes compulsive. Somewhere I see, he is becoming compulsive. He is actually waiting only for the short ball, rather than looking to go forward and then try and pull it.”
