Rugby World Cup 2023: England finishes third with a 26-23 win over Argentina 

E ngland took Argentina to take home the bronze medal at the Rugby World Cup 2023 in France. The Three Lions registered a 26-23 win on Friday to finish third place in the marquee tournament. Captain Owen Farrell kicked 16 points for England as they salvaged a positive result after a heart-breaking semi-final defeat. This is the first time the English team has registered a third-place finish at the Rugby World Cup.

Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin wins 5th straight sprint at Thailand GP 2023

Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin put forth a dominant performance to win his fifth straight sprint of the 2023 Moto GP season at the Thailand Grand Prix. With this result, Martin reduced the gap between him and the championship leader Francesco Bagnaia to 18 points. Brad Binder, a KTM driver, finished second, while VR46 Racing’s Luca Marini was third by a whisker. Ducati’s Bagnaia had a forgettable performance as he started on the second row but ended up with a seventh-place finish.

Mainz to terminate Anwar El Ghazi’s contract over social post on Israel-Gaza conflict

German club Mainz is set to terminate the contract of Former Aston Villa forward Anwar El Ghazi for his social media post regarding the Israel-Gaza conflict. El Ghazi received a suspension on 17 October by the Bundesliga club, who deemed the now-deleted post “unacceptable”. But in a meeting on Thursday, the club wanted the 28-year-old to apologise for his post but the forward decided to not issue an apology, citing humanitarian reasons behind his post.

PM Narendra Modi congratulates Indian contingent for crossing 100-medal mark at Asian Para Games 2023

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian contingent for crossing the 100-medal mark at the Asian Para Games 2023. The Indian PM tweeted, ” 100 MEDALS at the Asian Para Games! A moment of unparalleled joy. This success is a result of the sheer talent, hard work, and determination of our athletes.  This remarkable milestone fills our hearts with immense pride. I extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to our incredible athletes, coaches and the entire support system working with them.”

He added, ” These triumphs inspire us all. They serve as a reminder that nothing is impossible for our youth.”

Asian Paralympic Committee president declares Hangzhou Asian Para Games closed

The President of the Asian Paralympic Committee  Majid Rashed declared the Asian Para Games 2023 closed on October 28, Saturday. In the closing ceremony, Rashed said,  “I said that I thought this would be the biggest and best Asian Para Games ever. But it has surpassed my expectations.  Everything that has been done with such dedication, such care and such diligence. These truly have been two Games of equal splendour.” 

A total of 468 athletes won at least one medal in the continental event and set  21 new world records, 72 new Asian records and 283 Games records. India finished the campaign in fifth spot with 111 medals. 

Sheetal Devi wins Asian Para Games women’s Archery compound open gold

India’s Sheetal Devi kicked off the country’s Archery campaign in the Asian Para Games 2023 by winning gold in women’s open gold. Devi, a 16-year-old archer from Jammu and Kashmir beat  Singapore’s Alim Nur Syahidah in the women’s compound open event. She shot six consecutive ten rings in the last two rounds at the final of Women’s Ind. Compound and won her first individual gold medal at the Asian Games.

Odisha CM announces Rs 2 crore for Pramod Bhagat

Odisha CM  Naveen Patnaik announced a cash award of Rs 2 crore for a badminton player from the state Pramod Bhagat for his outstanding performance at the Asian Para Games on Friday, October 28. Patnaik said,  “Pramod is one of the finest competitors and is an example of sheer determination, and I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to him. I am certain he will continue to make us proud at the Paris 2024 Paralympics Games.” 

Bhagat won gold in para-badminton men’s singles event along with two bronze medals in men’s doubles and mixed doubles events.

Manu Bhaker secures Paris Olympic quota for India in  women’s 25m pistol category

Shooter Manu Bhaker secured the Paris Olympic quota for India in the women’s 25m pistol category on October 28, Saturday. Bhaker finished fifth in the women’s 25m pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championships 2023 in Changwon, the Republic of Korea on Saturday and in the process, qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
