When will Lionel Messi travel to China?

The Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami CF will be travelling to China for the first time in November 2023 after missing the Major League Soccer playoffs. Inter Miami’s postseason hopes ended with their recent loss against FC Cincinnati in its most recent game. Now the Flamingos have two fixtures against Charlotte FC remaining in the regular season, at home on Wednesday and in Charlotte on Saturday.

After these games, Inter Miami will take on Qingdao Hainiu, which plays in the Chinese Super League on November 5. Three days later, on November 8, the MLS club will travel to Chengdu for the second tour match against Chengdu Rongcheng. If Messi, dealing with a hamstring injury, plays, it would be his eighth trip to China for exhibitions for club or country since 2005.

Talking about this opportunity, Inter Miami sporting director and chief football officer Chris Henderson highlighted the tour as a wonderful opportunity to get ready for the 2024 season and win the team’s first title. In a press release, Henderson said, “This will be a great opportunity to continue building on our 2023 campaign, in which we achieved our first-ever trophy. We will take this as an opportunity to begin our preparations for 2024, as we look to build on last season and find more success moving forward.”

Similarly, Inter Miami chief business officer Xavier Asensi also expressed excitement about the trip as it will help the club build and nurture its global fan base while attracting more supporters. He said, “We’re very excited to continue to expand our club’s global reach, bringing our team to play in front of incredible fans across the globe. This is a special opportunity to share the passion as we reach new audiences and put ourselves on display in new places, and we’re looking forward to beginning this adventure.”
