Who is Pakistan’s richest cricketer? – It’s not Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik or Babar Azam

BCCI has been the richest cricket board among all other cricketing nations in the world and recently, it was reported that they paid a huge amount of 1,159 crores as tax money in the 2021-22 financial year. BCCI’s net worth is currently evaluated to be $2 billion while PCB’s net worth stands at just $55 million, hence the difference between an Indian cricketer’s salary and a Pakistan cricketer’s salary is expected to be very huge.

A grade A+ player from India earns 7 crores per year through an annual contract from BCCI, while a grade A+ player for Pakistan earns only 1.5 crores per year. Indian star players earn a huge amount of 15-plus crores from Indian Premier League (IPL), while Pakistani star players earn a maximum of 1.5 to 2 crores only from a Pakistan Super League (PSL) edition.

Pakistan cricket has seen a lot of international star players like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Wasim Akram, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, etc. and currently, the team is carried by star players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi etc. Currently, Babar Azam remains to be the highest-paid Pakistani cricketer but surprisingly he doesn’t feature to be the richest player from his country.

Notably, the richest cricketer from Pakistan is said to be Imran Khan who has a net worth of 10.2 billion Pakistani rupees which is estimated to be around 290 crores in Indian rupees, which is very very less when compared to Virat Kohli’s massive net worth of 1050 crores. Imran Khan had a successful international cricket career from 1971 to 1992 as an all-rounder and he also lead his national side to lift the ODI World Cup trophy in 1992.

Imran Khan after retiring from cricket landed several endorsement deals, used to work as a commentator in cricket matches and also worked in writing sports articles for media outlooks which also contributed to his wealth and net worth at a later stage. Imran Khan later joined politics and served as Prime Minister of Pakistan from August 2018- April 2022.

Imran Khan’s brand value as a politician also saw him earn much more than other Pakistani cricket players. On 5th Aug 2023, Imran Khan was arrested for corruption charges and he has been given a three-year jail sentence but he has appealed against his conviction to come out of jail on bail.
