Will Hardik Pandya play India’s next CWC 2023 clash against New Zealand?

Team India continued their winning run in the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 after beating Bangladesh on Thursday as they are one of the two teams including New Zealand, who are yet to lose a game in the World Cup. However, the Men in Blue faced a major setback as their star all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the game after suffering an ankle injury.

During the ninth over and Pandya’s first over in the match, the 30-year-old all-rounder was bowling to Litton Das. After being struck for a four on his second delivery, Pandya tried to save another four on his third ball by stretching his leg in the follow-through, however, he slipped and fell on the ground in pain. The 30-year-old all-rounder appeared to twist his ankle and was eventually ruled out of the match.

Team India won the game against Bangladesh by seven wickets as the Indian top-order stood up on the occasion with an 88-run stand between Rohit Sharma (48) and Shubman Gill (53) for the first wicket followed by Virat Kohli’s 48th ODI century and KL Rahul’s 34-run inning. The Indian side won the game without Pandya’s services, however, the hosts will need their star all-rounder for the tournament as he gives depth in bowling and batting department.

India are scheduled to face New Zealand in their next World Cup match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala and both teams will look to continue their perfect run in the tournament. However, reports emerged that Pandya will be missing the New Zealand clash as the Indian Express quoted a BCCI official saying that Pandya will join NCA in Bengaluru for further assessment of his ankle injury.

The BCCI official said, ” He will be heading to Bengaluru where he has been asked to report to the NCA. The medical team assessed his ankle scan report and it looks like he will be fine by taking an injection. The BCCI consulted a specialist doctor in England and they too were of a similar opinion. He will be missing the next game.”
