Will Travis Head feature in Australia’s match against Netherlands in Delhi?

The five-time world champions, Australia did not have the start they are expected to have at the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023. While they lost their tournament opener against India by six wickets in Chennai, their second consecutive loss came against South Africa in Lucknow. However, they were back in the campaign, beating Sri Lanka and Pakistan by 5 wickets and 62 runs consecutively.

But as they now look to continue their winning streak in the showpiece event, the team is also looking forward to Travis Head joining the squad post recovery. Notably, Head had fractured his left hand during Australia’s South Africa tour last month, prior to the three-match ODI series against India in India. While he missed the first four games of the ODI World Cup, Head Coach Andrew McDonald is optimistic of the opener’s return.

Talking ahead of Australia’s game against the Netherlands, McDonald said that the selectors will take a call on his availability after a training session on Monday. “We’re really optimistic that he’ll be available should all things go well today and as I said, most importantly, the way he pulls up tomorrow will be a key factor,” he said.

“We’ll just wait and see what it looks like in terms of the Netherlands if Head is fit,” McDonald further added.

With two wins so far in the competition, Australia are fourth in the standings with the host nation, India looking comfortable at the top of the table from five wins from five games, followed by New Zealand and South Africa.
